Things to do for St. Patrick's Day in the Twin Cities
You don't have to be Irish to enjoy the always festive St. Patrick's Day! We love celebrating the day just as much as everyone else! Except the getting pinched part if you don't wear green, we promise we won't do that to you....
If you're in the Twin Cities for St. Paddy's Day, you are certainly in luck if you're looking for things to do. We have plenty of Irish Pubs or events going on to keep you entertained for the next day or so.
Minneapolis Side
Who doesn't love a good Irish style meal with a Rueben, fish and chips, and a Guinness? Here are some Minneapolis favorite for food spots if you need to get out and get a green beer.
KIERAN'S IRISH PUB - Downtown
They have live music starting at 12:00pm tomorrow! They do open at 7:00am if you are looking to get an early start to your day, especially if you plan to take advantage of The 6 Nations Rugby Games screening in the restaurant.
Here'e the line up for the music:
The Inland Seas @ 12pm
The Sweet Colleens @ 4pm
Broken Spoke @ 9:30 to close
DJ Quam in the tent from 10pm-1am
MORRISSEY’S IRISH PUB - Uptown
This is certainly a great spot if you are looking for some live music and a great Bloody Mary. Ask for it spicy if you dare. They will have an overflow tent and with the highs hitting 50 tomorrow, who wouldn't want to hang outside anyways? The Minnesota Police Pipe Band, performing at 6:30 pm, will be there as well. So make sure to stop by!
STELLA'S FISH CAFE - Uptown
If you aren't big on all things Irish, that's okay. Stella's Fish Cafe is having their rooftop grand opening from starting at 11:30am in celebration of St. Patio's Day. Don't worry, there will still be green beer and drink specials!
FINNEGAN'S GRAND OPENING
If you haven't heard of Finnegan's or bought some before, you need to start looking into it! They donate 100% to feeding the hungry, in the communities that their beer is sold. Stop by their new location in Minneapolis, or at least consider buying at least one of their beers on Saturday to show support!
50th ANNUAL ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE - Nicollet Mall
This is definitely fun for the whole family on St. Paddy's Day! The parade will begin at 6:30pm - free for spectators. If you'd like to walk in the parade with your family, there is a $25 entry fee. Why not walk around and wave to all the visitors while being in the parade?!
Before the parade, make sure to stop by Minneapolis Visitor Information Center on Nicollet for free face painting and green beads (while they last) from 4:00pm to 6:00pm!
St. Paul Side
GET LUCKY! RACE
For those of you that feel like turning your holiday into an excuse to get a great run in, you can sign up do to the Get Lucky 7K, 14K, or 21K race. The race starts at CHS Field and after you can continue on to all the other fun festivities listed below for the day. Just a heads up that runners go all out in green to celebrate, so make sure to have fun with it if you choose to participate.
If you aren't a runner, you can still go down to support the race! Many long distance runners can confirm that having people cheer for you along the run helps you power through.
52nd ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE - downtown
Yes, St. Paul has it's own parade as well! If you are thinking of staying on the East side of the cities for the day, this parade starts at 12:00pm downtown. Hang out on 5th street or around Rice Park, details in the link above.
IRISH CELEBRATION
If you want to see pipe bands, Irish dancing, and buy some Celtic goodies, this is the place to go! Head over the Irish celebration from 10:00am - 5:00pm, or right after you see the parade. You can experience crafts for the kiddos and entertainment for the whole family!
THE LIFFEY, O'GARA'S, and MCGOVERN'S
We know that you'll need to refuel after visiting the Irish celebration, running a race, and watching the parade. All three of these places are absolutely delicious and are fantastic Irish spots in St. Paul!
The Liffey and McGovern's are walking distance away from each other if you are hanging out on W. 7th near the Xcel Center. Get the rueben appetizer at The Liffey followed by a burger for sure. It's a favorite.
O'Gara's is right off of Snelling and Selby and is another great spot to go! A favorite of Tommie kids and native St. Paul residents, this is a fun stop for a snack and a beverage. They will also be celebrating 77 years of business with anniversary specials for the day!
Did we miss any favorite spots of yours? What are your favorite spots outside of the city?
HAVE A HAPPY AND FUN ST. PADDY'S DAY!
