Fall in Love with Home

We can already feel it in the air - Fall is on it's way! It's been a few days of cooler air, hints of color coming to trees, and of course, everyone is already buying their pumpkin spice lattes.

We're never quite ready for summer to go away, however, it's hard to argue that this is one of the most beautiful time of year. Hello, crunching in the leaves and cozy sweaters.

One of our other favorite things? All the fun and cozy things you can do to your home to really get into the fall spirit!

Whether you are happily settled into your home and are just looking for some new ideas for the season, or you are planning on selling your home (and there's plenty of reasons why you should), here are a few ideas to make you or any buyers fall in love with your home.

Farmer's Market Fresh Finds

Fall Flowers

One of the easiest and prettiest things you can do to brighten up your home is by getting some lovely fall flowers to keep in your home or to dress up the front porch. Mums and pansy's are always a beautiful and easy choice to bring both to the interior and exterior of your home.

Look how adorable this arrangement is with the acorns and fresh flowers? This piece would be fantastic as a centerpiece on a table for a party, or to just enjoy in your favorite space.

Pumpkins and Squash

This is easily a favorite for us. Not only is it perfect to make your home instantly feel like Fall is here, you can buy them in a huge variety of sizes or styles. If you're really feeling motivated, buy a couple extra pumpkins or a squash to make a comforting soup after you have set up your beautiful Fall theme throughout your home.

Corn Stalks

Dried corn stalks can make a pretty compliment to your pumpkins and fall flowers in the front of your home. Add a couple next to your door, or put in a large basket with your flowers and you have a very simple, but festive decoration!

Cozy Up Your Space

Thick blankets -

There are no shortages of blankets in our households. There's really not too many things that are better than curling up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate or tea and a big cozy blanket. Get some thick or sweater like blankets to really make your family room even more appealing.  We also love the flannel look. It will work through the winter and it feels like Sweet Home Minnesota. You won't want to leave your cozy nook...

Check out some of our favorite sweater inspired blankets from Love Your Melon - not only are super cozy, 50% of LYM proceeds go to cancer research. While you're at it, you may as well get one of their hats that made them so famous. P.S. it's a Minnesota born company!

Color is Key

If you are trying to bring the seasonal feel into your home, one of the easiest ways to do so it think Fall colors! Oranges, yellows, and reds are all warm and welcoming colors. Incorporating some pillows or decor (i.e. that super cute wreath on the mantle in the picture above!) in these colors will make you feel like you brought the Fall into your home.

What's great about these colors as well is that you can still incorporate them throughout the year to keep the coziness in the rooms you want. For example, yellow can be a very cheery and welcoming color, so feel free to leave it there year round!

Soft Lighting  - Candlelight, Twinkle Lights, and Himalayan Salt Lamps, oh my!

Soft lighting is another one of those things we'd recommend utilizing throughout the year. However, this time of year, night fall starts coming sooner and having relaxing lighting is almost a must! Having candles lit while you're sitting by a fireplace or just enjoying a good book feels extra welcoming doesn't it? Not to mention, if candlelit pumpkins don't just scream Fall, what does?

We can't get enough of this look! The lit twigs, a soft lantern glow, and some pumpkins just put us in the mood for Halloween movies and preparing for Thanksgiving.

We also love using twinkle lights and Himalayan salt lamps create a soft a comforting glow. Salt lamps also have a slightly red/orange hue to them which really will compliment the rest of your fall decor.

Thinking you might want to sell this Fall?

Selling in the Fall is a fabulous time to do so! While the craziness of the market generally occurs in the Spring and Summer, we generally see another surge this time of year before we hit the cold Minnesota winter.

Generally, buyers that have been looking through the Spring and Summer without luck are extra motivated this time of year. They have been looking and are ready to move on the right home. Take advantage of these ready buyers!

If you are thinking about selling this Fall, you definitely can use some of the tips above to help your home appear warm and cozy. The important thing about this, however, it to make sure that it doesn't feel too personal. You always want homeowners to be able to visualize living in the home with their own belongings, while still appreciating tastefully done decor.
