Get Out this Winter: Twin Cities Activities

During the winter, it is so tempting to hunker down in your home and watch Netflix every weekend or read a book all weekend instead of even thinking about going out in the cold. While we completely relate, and it can be fun to do these some weekends. It's still important to get out and get some fresh air, or just to do something fun with your friends and loved ones.

Here are some fun activities that are going on for the next couple of months in the Twin Cities to give you something to look forward to, and to help keep you feeling adventurous until the warmer months come!

Winter Skate - Wells Fargo Plaza

This is a great FREE event in Saint Paul for everyone! Enjoy the man made rink in Downtown St. Paul and lasts through Feb. 3rd. Not to mention, if you post your skating experience on Instragram with the hashtag #WellsFargoWinterSkate, you can be entered to win 2 free tickets to a Wild Game. Get you skates and head down there before it's over! More details here.

Winter Flower Show

The flower show is hosted at St. Paul's Como Park Conservatory. If you haven't been to the Conservatory to see the gardens before, we highly recommend you go! From tropical displays to desert flowers, the gardens will give you a nice glimpse into the greenery that we miss during the winter months. Admission is free, however, donations go to help maintain the conservatory and the zoo. You can see more of the zoo's schedule here.

Winter Beer Dabbler

Visit the Minnesota State Fairgrounds this winter! The 10th annual Winter Beer Dabbler is being held on Feb. 23rd from 3 - 6:30pm. Over 180 breweries attend to sample out over 300 beers and ciders to patrons of the event. Live music and warm up stations are also at the event. For tickets & more info, go here.

Adult Night at the Minnesota Zoo

We've mentioned this event before, but we're mentioning it again because we love it so much! This is an adults only evening at the Minnesota Zoo and it works as a great date night out for a low cost! This time of year, there are plenty of indoor exhibits for you to explore and you get to enjoy adult beverages while checking out all the animals. You can check out the Zoo's schedule, here.

City of Lakes Loppet Festival

The City of Lakes Loppet Festival is located in Minneapolis and runs from Jan. 31st - Feb. 3rd. While the focus is mostly cross-country skiing, spectators and families are encouraged to attend as well! The various events include skiing, dogsled events, fat tire events, and more! To see more about the events and decided which are must sees on your list, go to the website here.

Ski Trails or Hiking

If you enjoy cross country skiing, or you want to bring the family and the pup out for a nice winter hike in the snow, Minnesota has thousands of miles of trails for you to explore! Bundle up and enjoy the crisp air while getting some great exercise. We love visiting Cleary Lake & Murphy-Hanrehan Park down in the South Suburbs for a winter stroll and hike in the woods.  You can find trails near you on the Explore Minnesota site, here.

Hockey Games

Minnesota and Hockey just seems to go together, doesn't it? Whether your kids play and you're at the rink on the weekends, teens are playing in the neighborhood park, or you go to see the Wild, they are always a great time! We love the Xcel Energy center in St. Paul because it's so full of energy, and the games are super fun! It's a great winter activity to get you out of the house and doing something fun, without being fully exposed to the winter elements. To check out the Wild's schedule, go here. This is always family approved outing!

Whatever event you decide to do this winter, try to make it out of your house and awhile! You can create great new memories, start a new tradition, and get to enjoy everything that Minnesota has to offer.

Do you have any other winter activities that you love that we should try out? Let us know! We are always looking for more fun things to do in our area.
