What You Should Think About When Buying a House
We LOVE the home buying process! It is always an exciting whirlwind of seeing different homes and experiencing what you really like and what you really don't like. Even if you have bought a home before and are looking to buy a new one - it's likely to feel like a brand new experience!
When preparing to buy a home, it's important to take some time to consider the aspects that are really important to you. This will help keep you from looking at homes that are way off track and better help your Realtor find that right home for you.
Below, we have some questions that you should take some time to consider - especially if you are purchasing with a partner. You want to agree on what you're looking for!
What is prompting your move?
When do you need to be in your new home?
What is your price range? Have you met with your lender?
Do you have any pets?
What is your ideal location?
Are schools important?
What else is important about your location?
What type of home are you looking for (e.g., single-family, condo, town house, etc.)? What size (sq feet)?
What size lot would you like?
What are you looking for in terms of a garage (e.g., attached, carport, etc.)?
What other exterior features are important to you?
What kind of floor plan do you prefer (e.g., open vs. walls between all living spaces)?
How many bedrooms do you need?
How many bathrooms do you need?
What are the top five things your home must have?
What are you top five things that would be nice to have?
We recommend that you spend some time looking over these questions when you begin the home buying process. Especially consider top things that your next home must have. For example, if you must have a 2 car garage, your search can be modified to exclude any 1 car garages to save you time from looking at them.
Your Realtor should ask you very similar questions and may ask you additional questions once you get the basics down. They will know the right questions to ask to help guide you through the search. We want you to find the best home that fits your needs as well!
