Spring Up Your Curb Appeal

It's finally happening! The weather is finally warmer, the sun is out, and green is starting to show up all around. It is actually starting to feel like spring time in the Twin Cities, and we are loving it! Now that it is finally nice enough to spend some quality time outside, it is the perfect opportunity to spend some time upping your curb appeal at home.

Everyone loves to drive by and see a home that has that certain appeal, whether is fresh paint or a beautifully landscaped yard. Doing these things to make your home really shine can be extremely satisfying and give you even more of a sense of pride of ownership in your wonderful home.

Here are some suggestions on items that will really make your home shine.

  • Clean Windows - This is an easy one to start if you're doing some interior Spring cleaning as well. Cleaning your windows will not only brighten up the interior of your home, it will really make your home appear well maintained from the exterior, especially if you have people visiting and they walk to the front door. Give your windows a quick wash or have a professional come out and do it for you. It doesn't take them long and the results are worth it! (If you don't know who to use, we have some great recommendations for vendors our clients have loved!)

  • Power Wash - Give your home a good scrub with a power wash! Siding, decks, sidewalks, garage, etc. can use a good wash for the spring. This will help get up any gunk that may have settled from fall into winter and will freshen up your walk ways.

  • Fresh Paint - Giving your home a fresh coat of paint can also make a world of difference. If the exterior is looking faded, or it's still a color that you didn't like from when you moved in, take advantage of the warm weather and give it a fresh look.

  • Bright welcoming door - While your at giving the rest of your house a fresh coat of paint, give some attention to your front door. Whether you paint it a new color, or just add a colorful wreath (ideas here), this will make it much more welcoming. This is also a great opportunity to use your door as a pop of color against the neutrals of the rest of the home.

  • Updated Lighting - Great exterior lighting can really enhance a homes beauty in the evening hours. If you have older exterior lights, try updating for some new ones, and maybe think about adding some to your landscaping in the front or back of the home. It can create a more executive style feel to the home and will make it easier to enjoy the outdoors at night.  Stores like Menards or Home Depot have plenty of options to choose from if you aren't sure where to start!

  • Modern house numbers - This little trick is easy and affordable to update! Take down old house numbers, especially if they are lopsided or rusting, and pick up some new ones. It'll make it easier for your guests to find your home and will show the added bit of care to the home.

  • Landscaping- This is a big one! Pretty landscaping really can make your home stand out in a neighborhood. Add some mulching around the sides of a sidewalk or surrounding a big tree in the yard, plant some flowers around the front of your home. Most importantly, keep your yard clean. Maintain your lawn and keep weeds out of any areas that you have planned plants. Having an unkept yard can be a big deterrent for a buyer or to your friends and family when they come by.

  • Flowers and Hanging Plants - This can be another extremely easy step to help brighten up your curb appeal! Buy some potted plants for your front porch, or hanging basket plants that will bring a little extra color to your home and be pretty to look at too. Everyone loves looking at pretty flowers when they stop by!
