Don't Forget About Your Loved Ones This Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner! If you're anything like us, it's probably snuck up on you AGAIN. We always seem to remember it last minute. Whether or not you're a big fan of the holiday, it's a great excuse to do something fun with your sweetie, your friends, or just to treat yourself.

Here are some fun things you can do on the holiday to celebrate the day dedicated to love.

Ice Skating

There's a reason why ice skating appears in so many romantic movies. It's one of the best ways to get out and be active in the winter. You get to get bundled up in cozy winter clothing and use each other for support while you're on the ice. Especially if neither one of you is a pro ice skater. Bonus points if it's something new you get to try with each other! Grab a cup of hot chocolate and let those endorphins boost your spirit while making the most of winter. You can visit a whole array of ice skating rinks in the Twin Cities here. One of the prettiest spots we love is at The Depot in Minneapolis.

Take a Cooking Class or Woodworking Class

Instead of going out to eat, or buying something new for your home, build something together. There are plenty of cooking classes you can take in the Twin Cities area where you can learn how to make a new meal and try something new together. Cooks of Crocus Hill is one that has classes in Minneapolis and Stillwater for a fun night out. The Whole Foods in Uptown also has cooking classes to check out throughout the month.

Additionally, did you know that classes have been popping up where you can go learn to build that new furniture piece you've been wanting for your home? You can build a new headboard, cutting board, or serving tray at one of these classes. Projects in Person - PIP is a great one in the Twin Cities and they have an event on the 14th to make your own cutting board.

Make a New Meal at Home

If you don't want to go out to a class to learn something new, or go out to dinner on Valentine's Day, you can always make a nice dinner at home! Homemade lemon fettuccine Alfredo is a favorite with our group (this is our favorite - pro tip, add some shallots). Serve with plenty of parmesan and some warmed french bread.

If you're more of a cookbook fan, we recommended Chrissy Teigen's Cravings and Cravings: Hungry for More and pretty much any recipe in either of those books will prove to be a fantastic dinner to celebrate. If you don't have them yet, you can pick them up at Target or order them on the links now to get them in time for Valentine's Day.

Volunteer at a Shelter

What a better way to show the world a little extra love by volunteering for Valentine's Day? You can visit a locate animal shelter to play with the animals, and maybe even bring one home, or you can visit one of the local food shelters or homeless shelters to help out. Check out your local shelters to see if they need any help for the week or weekend. One of our favorite ones to volunteer for is The Open Door.

Make Valentine's for Family & Friends

This is especially a good one if you have kiddos or if you know some friends or family that don't celebrate the day with anyone. Make their day a little brighter and send them a valentines day card or gift. Throw in a little chocolate too to really make their day fun. It'll make them feel like a kid again and they'll appreciate the thought. You can always do this for some of your favorite coworkers too.

Order In

The ultimate night to stay in enjoying your home. Order in your favorite guilty pleasure and turn on a cheesy movie for the night. If you haven't used DoorDash or BiteSquad yet we would highly recommend checking them out if you don't want to just order from your favorite pizza place or Chinese place. From restaurants like Kona Grill, Burger Jones, and more, these places will have a list of restaurants near you that you can choose from.

Whatever you do on Valentine's Day we hope that you tell at least one person that you care about them and that you are happy to have them in your life. When it's all said and done, what can be a cheesy holiday, is a great reminder that love is the most important home.
