Start Preparing Your Home for Spring
Yes, we know that with all the snow we've been having February, it doesn't seem possible that Spring could be coming anytime soon. We know that Minnesota Springs can be extremely unpredictable, however, we are almost there to warm weather!
With March just around the corner, you can finally start preparing for longer days, warmer weather, and hopefully, melting snow.
To start getting you mentally prepared, there are some things you can do around the house to make it feel like Spring and making your home feel fresh as Spring air.
Indoor Cleaning
Yes, you can get a head start on your Spring cleaning! Do some of it now, so when the weather warms up, you can get outside!
Clean the Inside of Your Windows
Allow the light to shine in! Give your windows a good clean on the inside, once it warms up you can make it out to take care of the exterior and the screens.
Clean Out Your Cabinets & Fridge
Take some time to go through your cabinets and fridge and get rid of any expired or unwanted food. Don't forget that local food shelves are always looking for donations, so if you have non-perishables that are still good, bring them to a shelter.
Deep Clean Your Appliances
Don't just wipe down the front of them, REALLY clean them. Move them from the wall and clean up the space behind them and underneath them. Don't forget about refrigerator coils or really wiping out your microwave. You'll feel a lot better about storing and cooking your food in your home after you do.
Check your Furnace Filter
Remember our Polar Vortex? Our furnaces have been working overtime this year trying to keep our homes warm. Make sure that you replace your filter if you haven't done so yet this year. It'll help keep your air cleaner, and keep your furnace running as efficiently as it can.
Look into Scheduling any Contractor Work Now
Do you think you'll need a new driveway this year? Or want to have a professional come out and clean your windows for Spring? Look into getting some of this work scheduled now before your favorite companies are booked for weeks on end.
Spring Up Your Decor
Are you guilty of leaving up holiday lights indoors a little too long in the winter? We know we have been. It can help keep your home feeling cozy during the cold months, however, it's time to put them away and put out some decor that makes your home feel like Spring!
Succulents or Plants
One of the easiest ways to make your home feel a little fresher is to add some plants or greenery. Keeping live plants will help naturally clean your air and bring a little more life into your home, however, if you don't necessarily have a green thumb, fake plants are great too. Places like Target, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby have great options for these if you are looking for fake ones. Bonus points, get a green or floral wreath to add to your indoor decor or to put on your front door to make your home appear more welcoming.
Pops of Color
We tend to be Queens of neutral tones in our home. While these can be pleasing in most spaces, adding pops of color will bring a little more life into your home. Get some fun & bright throw pillows for a couch, a new picture for a wall, or some fun bathroom or kitchen rugs. Adding bright or even pastel colors to your home can make it appear a little more lively and may even brighten up your mood.
Fresh From the Market
One of our favorite parts about the warmer months is the ability to visit a farmers market to get fresh produce or flowers. While you can't necessarily visit your favorite farmers market yet, you can go to one of your local grocery stores and pick up a few in season veggies or fruits and add them to your diet for Spring. While you're there, pick up some fresh cut flowers to put in a view vases around your home. They'll smell great and make you think warm thoughts.
Redo that Spare Room...
Do you have a bedroom or space you have been meaning to remodel for a while now? Take advantage of the last bit of wintery weather and get to work on it! Add a fresh coat of paint, rearrange the furniture, and add some new decor. The newness of a redecorated room will make you feel accomplished and will check one space off your list for Spring cleaning.
