Things to do over 4th of July Weekend
How can we already almost be at the 4th of July?! June flew by this year.
We are so excited to get together with family and friends to celebrate the holiday and hopefully get some great outdoors time. If you are staying in the Twin Cities this year for the 4th, there is plenty around the metro to keep you occupied on the 4th of July & for the weekend after.
Some of the best places to watch fireworks:
Apple Valley Freedom Days - Music, food, games, and fireworks! Enjoy the pre-fireworks party starting at 6:00pm at Johnny Cake Ridge Park until the show at 10:00pm.
Delano - If you are looking for things to do all weekend this is it! From bean bag toss games, bingo, and magicians, you should find plenty to do for the next few days to enjoy the festivities!
Eagan Funfest - Starting on Wednesday the 3rd, Eagan has a carnival, parade, music, and late night entertainment, even after the fireworks are gone.
Eden Prairie Hometown Celebration - Games and contests go all day long at this celebration! Not to mention you can try out your karaoke skills or get some extra sun paddle boarding or kayaking.
Excelsior's Lake Minnetonka Celebration - If you're going to be out on the Lake this 4th of July, you will have quite the show from the water! Swing by the Excelsior area to take a break and do a firecracker run, go to a parade for the kiddos, enter a sand castle contest, and watch the fireworks.
Minneapolis - Minneapolis has several GREAT spots to see fireworks from all around including from the Red, White, Boom celebration that starts early in the morning with a 5K/half marathon and leads into festivities by the Stone Arch Bridge for most of the day. You can't go wrong here!
Richfield - This is also a great spot if you are looking for some afternoon activities! They will have food trucks, a beer garden, and a street dance. And of course, the day will end with fireworks.
For the weekend of the 4th:
The fun doesn't have to end after the actual 4th. There's plenty to do in the Twin Cities that will keep you and your family entertained for the rest of the long weekend.
MN Zoo - We always love a trip to the zoo. With plenty of indoor and outdoor exhibits, you'll have a fun day for an outing. For the week of the 4th (through the 7th) it's also Military Family Week with special discounts for current & past members of the military. See website for details.
Como Zoo - This is a great option for a zoo if you are in the city. We absolutely love their conservatory and the Sunken Flower Show starts this weekend! If you go to Como, make sure you stop in a fun restaurant in the area before heading home.
Science Museum - If you need a little indoor time over the weekend, we love visiting the Science Museum. They always have great special exhibits going on. Right now, they have an Apollo 11 showing, Cuba film, and "Inventing Genius" exhibit.
Take a Day Trip - You can see some of our favorite places we'd recommend in our previous blog post.
Try a new ice cream joint - The weather is looking like it's going to be hot for the next week and beyond the 4th. Treat your family to some ice cream at a new place and explore a different part of town. We just shared some of our favorite spots and places we want to try this summer here.
What are some of your other favorite events to do for the the 4th of July? Are you doing anything else that we should know about? We'd love to know!
Have a FUN and SAFE 4th of July!
